Contact your counties embassies’ website you will find a wealth of information from Country information, passport and visa requirements, currency, information on customs what you can, and can not bring to and from the country, travel tips – food, water, taxis, getting around, customs and laws of the country. Some Embassies have an option where you can register you itinerary and emergency contact information. It’s a good idea in case of disaster natural or otherwise, medical emergency or if you need help the embassy may be able to assist their citizen.
Insurance
Many places offer travelers insurance as a just in case something happens you need medical help. It 's a great value if you need it. Check you insurance you may already be covered for international travel.
What to bring
Planning is the key to a great vacation, have a check list. Avoid the travel stress give yourself plenty of time.
1. Passport - make sure you sign it .he
2. Visa - some countries require it some allow you to get one at the airport
3. Medications – bring enough and extra just in case
4. Small address book with Emergency contact ,doctors phone number, allergies, itinerary, phone number of your local embassy
5. Toiletries –toothbrush, mouthwash, hand sanitizer, and spray sanitizer are allowed as long as they are less than 3 oz most retail stores will have small samplers or travel size.
6. Electric outlet adapters they are cheap and can found everywhere.
The flight
Shopping for a flight, going to the airlines website is almost always more, I try the two big flight search engines Priceline and orbitz.
Snacks and airplane meals , always specify a halal, vegetarian or kosher meal there is no charge and you know what you are getting . Snacks I like nuts they are healthy and delicious
Staying in contact and having something to do on the plane I would bring a Netbook or Laptop. The netbook is very inexpensive but great laptop they are light have amazing battery life, just great to watch movies and internet most hotels and airports have internet ,free wifi is more commonplace around the world, and inexpensive enough you wont be upset if you loose it.
Tiger Direct has all your electronic needs and a discounted price, GPS,Laptop, converters you name it they have it
Acommodations need a room
Depending on the country it is good to stay at a local name hotel. Big name hotels like St.Regis, Ritz, Starwood, Westin, Holiday Inn, and so on are safe bets you know what you are getting.
Be safe
Keep in contact with friend and family make sure they know where you are and where you are going.A cheap way is with international phone cards they are cheap and your family/friends will be happy you called.Jewelry, leave it at home, keep it at a minimum just your wedding ring. Robbery is in every spot in the world don’t become a target. If you must take a lot use the hotel safe or the room safe.Cash, Flashing cash anywhere is not smart. Most places accept credit cards, use ATM take what you need, they usually give a favorable exchange rate.I don’t like traveler’s checks.
